The course social entrepreneurship focuses on identifying a significant social and/or environmental issue and developing a business idea with systemic environmental and social impact. This module has two streams. In the first stream, course participants will start with a problem deep-dive. Through extensive research, they will study a problematic social or environmental issue to identify the source of the problem. They will then learn how to find a data-driven solution for this problem and validate it. The next steps will be mapping the customers and users of their solution and creating a product or service vision. In the pitch training, participants will learn how to present the aggregated data in concise audience-oriented manner.
In the second stream, every team, once formed, will undergo several mentoring sessions on business model creation. The basis for these sessions is the sustainable business model canvas. Here the participants will implement and expand the knowledge gained in the first stream. We will be working on value propositions, competitive strategies and revenue streams. The key aspects here will be social and environmental costs, social and environmental benefits, design for disassembly, end-of life dimensions, and impact of the solution. The teams have to arrange mentoring sessions with the lecturer separately.
These two streams run parallel.
Despite of many topics, the key purpose of this course is to learn to identify a relevant problem and know how to measure the impact of one’s actions.
The course social entrepreneurship follows the idea of project- and challenge-based learning. The project you will be working on is your venture idea. You do not need to have a business idea before entering this course. However, it may help you to progress, if you have one. Using a sequence of interrelated sessions, the course leverages the theoretical input with hands-on sessions and intensive coaching by industry experts to support participants’ learning journey. This module follows the logic of short work cycles in the sense of Double-Diamond approach (https://bit.ly/Double_Diamond) and the scientific method (http://bit.ly/Scientific_method).
